This week I have focused more on the audio for my piece. After doing some more research around my topic, I have decided on some sounds that would work in my project. Firstly, when discussing the language barrier problem as one of the main drawbacks of being an international student during COVID-19 I will record some audio of my friend speaking broken English to further emphasise the struggle. Also, I will record a clock ticking to highlight how the world thought this pandemic would end soon but unfortunately it will probably last a lot longer than anticipated. Another sound that would work well is a door closing/locking to reinforce how we have to stay indoors due to the lockdown. These are just some of the many ideas I have come up with this week.
Secondly, this week there was a slight problem but I managed to resolve it. I had planned to interview Maika (international student) on Thursday 12th November and record her phone interview in the studio. However, as she is currently in her own country right now, calling me would be very expensive for her. Therefore, I have come up with a solution, we will have a zoom call instead because when you record a meeting it also records the sound as a separate file which I can use and the sound quality will still be good.
As for the social media element, I have decided to create a campaign on Twitter instead of doing polls on Instagram. I believe that starting a campaign suits my MMP more because I can create a hashtag and get international students to share their personal stories about how COVID-19 and the recently announced lockdown is affecting their mental health and well-being.
So, my aims for next week are to create my twitter account and start my campaign and to prepare for my two interviews on the 11th and 12th November.
